I have 20+ years in financial services in various senior operational and organisational development roles, Over this time I experienced a few defining moments that compelled me to reflect on what is most important to me. While we have several Royal Commission to reflect on, the 2018 Royal Commission into Financial Services Misconduct was particularly defining for me.
What makes inherently good people, occasionally do bad things?
The nature of this question naturally led me down several insightful paths in my current Doctorate study. I have examined the complex, dynamic, contextual factors that mediate and moderate individual and group behaviour within organisations. As I focused on finding the answer to this question, equally important questions emerged, and so my learning continues.
What prevents inherently good people, from doing bad things?
What motivates inherently bad people, to occasionally do good things?
At the centre of any plausible answer to these questions is the concept of self-determined, values-driven living. This is why I started Culture Craft.
Essentially, I want to help organisations evolve from cultures of rules-based governance to values-based governance. This involves shifting patterns of thought and behaviour to create an environment in which people are intrinsically motivated by the values inherent in the future desired behaviours of the organisation.
I am committed to establishing healthy organisational cultures, characterised by social cohesion, deep trust and reciprocity, enhanced cooperation, and the absence of disruptive behaviours. Cultures in which there is alignment between individual self-interest and the collective interest of the organisation, in the pursuit of a shared purpose.
